Out of equilibrium dynamics in bubbles and ringsThe BEC group at LPL is an expert in superfluid dynamics in low dimensions. We operate an original BEC machine enabling the production of two-dimensional atomic rubidium superfluids trapped onto a curved shell-shaped surface using adiabatic potentials, resulting in a very smooth and highly tunable environment [1]. This enables the study of fast rotating superfluids in a new supersonic regime [2], and the study of vortex lattices [3]. Recently we implemented a protocol to compensate the gravitational potential allowing the superfluid to expand onto the curved surface [4]. We are now in a position to combine these tools to study out-of-equilibrium dynamics on the shell or in an annular geometry.[1] Merloti et al., New Journal of Physics 15, 033007 (2013) We offer a 2-year post-doctoral position (ANR and PEPR funded), to start en 2026 or in 2027, to investigate this new topic and drive the experimental developments. Environment: The LPL, located on the campus of University Sorbonne Paris Nord at less than 30 minutes from the center of Paris, gathers about 80 people on five research axes spanning metrology to bio-physics. About 20 people are currently members of the quantum gases axis, working on one of the five experiments. The post-doc will join the Rubidium team, coordinated by the group leader and currently comprising one researcher, an associate professor and two PhD students (1st year and 2nd year). We also benefit from the help of a research engineer. The experiment is currently funded by ANR and the French National programme for quantum technologies (PEPR Quantique). Profile: We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with an expertise in cold atoms, atomic physics or quantum optics. A previous experience on an ultra-cold atom experiment will be particularly appreciated. Position details: We offer a 24 months fixed term contract starting ideally in January 2027, with a salary of order 3000 euros gross monthly depending on experience. Extension is possible.
